chapter thirty-three

Detaching from the details of “the illusion.”
Attaining the vantage point of the witness.

p322 From that vantage point the world in which you were born, and in which you have played out the animated scenes of your personal drama, is a world relegated to the realm of memory—an archive of experience that you’re welcome to revisit at will. But now, when you choose to look back upon those episodes, you do so from the perspective of the overview. Now you are able to see, in retrospect, the truth underlying those experiences. Now you can witness for the first time what was obscured and colored by the intensity of emotion. Once the veils of emotion have been lifted, true objectivity is possible. And the memory becomes a vivid picture—vibrant in its aliveness—revealing the gift of the clarity that was there all along.
